Lisa Walker...Auction Hunter...

So this whole Auction thing is a  bit out of control, however I am turning the things I buy around pretty quickly...and making money...so it is all good.  I will say that I buy some things to redo and then sell, I buy some things to just sell again (with no work), and I buy some things for me or for one of my family members.  I bought my sister-in-law a bistro set, some old coins for Dan, and even  signed sports memoribilia for my dad...so it is NOT all for me or for me to sell for more money :)

I am on a waiting list to get a booth at an antique mall, so I am currently selling on Facebook and Craigslist.  So far, it is a lot of fun.  Maybe because it is like gambling...and you know how much I  like to gamble.

A Little Splash of Color

Our house is very dark on the outside, dark brick, dark wood, dark stone, so I knew I had to bring in a splash of color.  I saw this pillar idea on Pinterest and knew I wanted to do something similar.  I went to a local warehouse sale a month ago and they had this ugly pillar, plain, with some white paint on it.  I took my Target rug with me to Home Depot and picked out a color that I thought went well with it.  I also wanted a color that would be bright and display any holiday decor I might buy.

The chair...the ugly chair that you cannot sit in.  In fact, at the auction, they had police tape around it so you could not sit in it at all.  There were three of them, but I only wanted one.  I thought about painting it, but I love all of the character in that chair.  Dan used his handy tools to cut me a perfectly perfect circle and my plant is now ready to be planted.

I think it is a good start to our porch...makes me smile.  I am pretty sure the neighbors think I am a bit odd with all of my things...but I'll bring the next batch of margaritas to Margarita Friday and they probably will not care after that.

AUCTION HUNTER

OK, so my mom, sister-in-law, and I went to our first Antiques and Collectibles Auction over Memorial Day.  I bought stuff to use in my house or redo for my house.  Then I decided to check out an auction close to our house in Haslet...and bought more.  It is so much fun!  I am pretty good about not going "over" what I think I should pay for an item...but I do get competitive :)  These are a couple of my finds (I have repainted and Lisafied them a bit).  I currently have them for sale on our neighborhood page, but I bet I end up using them in my house.  I forgot to take before pictures...I'll get better about that as I keep hunting for more treasures.

This little table was faux/sponge painted green and white.
I decided to paint it a teal sort of color - bluish green.
After I painted it, I sanded a bit of the paint to make it look shabby.
The shelf below was very rusted, and had gross chippy paint in random places.  Dan sanded a lot of the chippy paint off and I repainted it.  I also shined up the wooden shelf.
You can tell it was handmade by someone many years ago.

Be Our Guest

My guest room makes me happy.  Before we bought a new house, I decided that I wanted a gray and yellow guest room.  I have gradually been finding, creating, reusing fun "treasures" for our room.  I have found a ton of things on sale (the floral quilt is from Big Lots for $30).
Now bring on the guests...

I was able to use my fabulous suitcases as a night stand again.  I found the lamp and shade at Target, I just glued a gigantic broach on the shade to make it a little more shabby chic.  The headboard was one I bought at an auction for $15.  It was a yucky, brown faux painted piece, so I just covered it with black spray paint.  It came with a footboard too, but I do not think I am going to use it.
We had an extra TV, so we decided to put it in the guest room, per my Dad's request :) The wrought iron piece above the TV was a pale green color until I got a hold of it.   I had a ton of frames from our Austin house, so I found some yellow/gray scrapbook paper to put in them for a touch of color and "art".  I bought the hope chest at an antique store for REALLY cheap!  The old student desk was a gift from my parents when I started teaching MANY years ago :)
I had the vintage scale and lantern...they are just now in a new place.  I found these awesome yellow rugs with matching towels at Target (my second home).
This shower curtain was in the clearance section at Target too.  I had the wrought iron towel holder in the Austin house upstairs bathroom.  It helps tie in the yellow with the gray.
My "Gate of Fame".  This is a gate I found somewhere in a field in Texas :)  I am using it to post pictures of our guests when they visit.  Nana and Pop Pop were the first to make it on our Gate of Fame.  Clothespins painted black with tiny flowers glued to them are the picture holders.
I love this scale...I added a basket to the top of it and a bunch of rolled wash clothes.  Adds color, a little shabbiness, and makes me happy!!
