Table Times Two

Our house has dark floors, we have dark leather furniture, and we brought dark furniture from our last house.  Too much darkness in our house.  I am not changing the floors, I love our leather furniture, especially with two little ones, so the other pieces have to go.  I started by buying two tables off our neighborhood Facebook page...about $60 worth of tables.  They were nice tables to begin with, but just did not fit in our house...so I changed them up a bit.  They are older tables, so nice and sturdy - solid wood.  I sanded them, painted them, distressed them, and then waxed them with a dark wax to highlight all of the fun imperfections.  No this is not everyone's style...but it sure is mine!

Pinterest Projects

Like most...I love Pinterest.  As we planned our move to DFW, I  pinned, pinned, and pinned...not that I can possibly create all of my pins, but I sure am trying pretty hard to do so :)

I didn't even try to "tweak" this one, I loved it the way it was presented on Pinterest.  We hang Cole and Blake's backpacks on the hangers.

This one is a combo of a couple of projects I pinned on Pinterest.
My babies on their "birthday" and an antique clock set to their birth times.
I found the saying on Pinterest and a lady made the sign for me.
I love the vintage look...can you tell???

Blake's Place

Here are a few pictures of Blake's Place.  Lots of pink and lot of girly things...just like we like it!

Blake's room the day we signed the contract on the house.
I had to take the bumper pad off because she plays with it instead of sleeping.
The "Wall of Blake"...her monthly pictures from birth to one year old.
Her bow holder is an old lampshade..I love the vintage touches in her room too.
The Owl Art is a new purchase.  It is an old window screen with little owls made of unique finds.
 B's B :)
 Her new rules...
She has a little linen closet that I keep the kid's bath things in...easy to keep organized.

Cole's Hangout

I wanted to post a few pictures of how Cole's room has changed over the past few months.  He loves his dinosaur room.  I love all of the "vintage" touches we added to his little boy room.

This is a picture of Cole's room the day we signed the contract on this house.
The Dino Art is made from old barnwood from my parent's ranch house.  I dry brushed it and added the dino decal.  Cole's loves his longneck.
 "Dinosaur Birds!"
 Book Nook!
He puts little "treasures" on his cubby shelf all of the time.
You never know what you will find in the compartments.
He yells, "That is my name" every single time he sees the C.
 All of his birthday pictures.
I read him his rules all of the time...over and over and over and...

Halloween - Lisa Style

It has been a while since my last post - we have been crazy getting into the swing of a new job.

We have a wonderful fireplace that has stone all of the way up to our VERY tall ceiling.  Even though I don't have ANY desire to fully decorate our house for each and every holiday, I thought I can at least decorate our fireplace.  If you haven't figured out, I am in the "don't do matchy-matchy" stage of life - so I found random pieces in Canton, Hobby Lobby and Kirklands, and even my own house to create a fun display.  I am sure I will find more after the holidays...on sale :)

Don't Sit THERE!

So sometimes my "mind" and "ideas" get the better of me.  I see something and what I want to "make" it and don't think about what could happen if others don't see my vision....which by the way is most of the time.   I have some new additions to our front porch.  Our house has very dark brick and trim, so I decided to add lots of color to it.  I bought a pillar at a warehouse sale, painted it teal blue, added a hook, and it is now our welcome sign holder.  I change the little signs out for the different holidays (thank you for this idea Pinterest).  I bought a horribly old chair that had a sign on it, "Don't sit here" taped too it.  I had Dan cut a hole in it and I plopped a pretty plant inside of it...So Don't Sit There!  I then found a horribly shabby bistro set, that I am turning into a plant stand.  I will eventually add more plants, but 1.  It is 115 degrees and nothing much will survive right now and 2.  I have to find cute plastic pots because we really didn't check out the wind speeds in Haslet, Texas before buying our house.  So plastic it will have to be, just in case.  If you come to our house and see my cute bistro set...Don't Sit There.  I will NOT be liable for any injuries.  It is a plant stand, not a people stand.

 Pillar Before
Bistro Chair Before
I have based all of my colors on that Target front door rug :)
Dan cut a perfectly perfect round circle in the old chair for me...just Don't Sit There!
I have a vision of this being covered in potted plants, on the seats, on the top, underneath.
Just Don't Sit There!
Or There!  I will be sure to put plants on the seats so it is almost impossible to sit.  This set was soooo cheap and I have been looking for a plant stand for that side of the porch...so there it is!
OK, you can sit there!  We need to go and buy one more small rocker for Blake.
We have had these since Cole's first birthday :)

Seeing Beyond the YUCK!

I think the reason I could make a go of this whole "side business" is that I can see beyond what is in front of me.  I get it from my mom - it is how I grew up :)  I also look at something, set in my mind what I would have to do to "fix" it, how much it would cost, how long would it take before I could flip the project, and how much I could sell it for....all of that while an auctioneer is shouting his gibberish.  So far, I feel I have been pretty good.  I also have to think, am I buying this to make a profit or am I buying this to keep at my house.  If I am keeping it, I am willing to pay a bit more because I am not trying to make a specific profit.

I bought MANY chairs to try at the last auction.  I have never done a chair before, but I thought I would give it a try.

Here is my first attempt.  I didn't really plan on yellow, but I was using it on something else, so it was in the paint tray ready to go.  Did you know you can use a 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby for one "cut" of fabric?  So if you want 5 yards of the same design, you can use it to get 40% off instead of the normal 30% off Hobby Lobby usually has on fabric.  Who knew...well probably everyone but me because I don't really ever buy fabric.
