Don't Sit THERE!

So sometimes my "mind" and "ideas" get the better of me.  I see something and what I want to "make" it and don't think about what could happen if others don't see my vision....which by the way is most of the time.   I have some new additions to our front porch.  Our house has very dark brick and trim, so I decided to add lots of color to it.  I bought a pillar at a warehouse sale, painted it teal blue, added a hook, and it is now our welcome sign holder.  I change the little signs out for the different holidays (thank you for this idea Pinterest).  I bought a horribly old chair that had a sign on it, "Don't sit here" taped too it.  I had Dan cut a hole in it and I plopped a pretty plant inside of it...So Don't Sit There!  I then found a horribly shabby bistro set, that I am turning into a plant stand.  I will eventually add more plants, but 1.  It is 115 degrees and nothing much will survive right now and 2.  I have to find cute plastic pots because we really didn't check out the wind speeds in Haslet, Texas before buying our house.  So plastic it will have to be, just in case.  If you come to our house and see my cute bistro set...Don't Sit There.  I will NOT be liable for any injuries.  It is a plant stand, not a people stand.

 Pillar Before
Bistro Chair Before
I have based all of my colors on that Target front door rug :)
Dan cut a perfectly perfect round circle in the old chair for me...just Don't Sit There!
I have a vision of this being covered in potted plants, on the seats, on the top, underneath.
Just Don't Sit There!
Or There!  I will be sure to put plants on the seats so it is almost impossible to sit.  This set was soooo cheap and I have been looking for a plant stand for that side of the porch...so there it is!
OK, you can sit there!  We need to go and buy one more small rocker for Blake.
We have had these since Cole's first birthday :)

Seeing Beyond the YUCK!

I think the reason I could make a go of this whole "side business" is that I can see beyond what is in front of me.  I get it from my mom - it is how I grew up :)  I also look at something, set in my mind what I would have to do to "fix" it, how much it would cost, how long would it take before I could flip the project, and how much I could sell it for....all of that while an auctioneer is shouting his gibberish.  So far, I feel I have been pretty good.  I also have to think, am I buying this to make a profit or am I buying this to keep at my house.  If I am keeping it, I am willing to pay a bit more because I am not trying to make a specific profit.

I bought MANY chairs to try at the last auction.  I have never done a chair before, but I thought I would give it a try.

Here is my first attempt.  I didn't really plan on yellow, but I was using it on something else, so it was in the paint tray ready to go.  Did you know you can use a 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby for one "cut" of fabric?  So if you want 5 yards of the same design, you can use it to get 40% off instead of the normal 30% off Hobby Lobby usually has on fabric.  Who knew...well probably everyone but me because I don't really ever buy fabric.

Door Decor

I decided to brighten up Cole and Blake's bedroom doors with a little bit of scrapbook paper and Mod Podge...of course!

Simple and super cute.  Cole even helped with the "paint" (the Mod Podge). Cole was so excited to see his C this morning and Blake kept trying to grab her B when I was showing her it to her.  EASY project, CHEAP project, and lots of fun.

Spray Paint the wooden letter first

I spray painted the wreath holders the same color as the wooden letters.

Too Distressed Versus Distressed Just enough

So Dan thinks if I see something rusted, falling apart, all scratched up I like it (well he is pretty much right).  But I do like it to be shabby and distressed just enough to fit in with my other things.

So from this...

To this...

This bench is also for sale.

Rocking Rocker

Another project for today.
I really want to keep it, but I have another piece I am working on for our porch.  My sister-in-law bought this rocker and an auction, but it was too big for her porch, so I inherited it.  I Lisafied it today and have it listed for sale on our neighborhood Facebook page.  It would look great for deco on a front porch.

Thinking Outside of the Cart

I'm not exactly sure where I come up with some of my ideas...I blame my mother :)
But sometimes you just need to think outside of the cart...I mean box.

This was the VERY first thing I ever bought at an auction.  I think I paid $10 or $15 for it.
Paint was peeling and it was DIRTY!
 Much better.
Sometimes, you just need to use everyday things in a not so everyday way.
I bet I find Blake in it and Cole pushing her around.
A little shabbiness to our playroom.
